Epitomising the glamour and decadence of 1980s Reagan-era America, Dynasty was essentially a prime-time soap opera, and was characterised by campy, melodramatic plotlines, as well as Joan Collins' magnetic performance as the conniving Alexis Colby. She is divorced from Blake Carrington, a fabulously wealthy oil magnate who marries his secretary, Krystle Jennings, at the show's inception; the jealous Alexis, head of her own oil corporation, does everything she can to destroy their union. The rest of the cast is comprised of Blake and Alexis' four children: the promiscuous amnesiac Fallon; Adam, who was kidnapped at birth; the sexually ambivalent Steven; and Amanda, who has run off to Europe. During the first season, Krystle adapts to her new role as an aristocrat, and Blake tries to work through his problems with his gay son, though he is eventually put on trial for the murder of his son's lover. Episodes include: 'The Honeymoon', 'The Chauffeur Tells A Secret', 'The Beating', and 'The Birthday Party'. Special Features:None Listed
All 16 episodes of the BBC sitcom set in a factory canteen, written by and starring comedienne Victoria Wood. In 'Monday', the dinnerladies are unimpressed by the attempts of Philippa (Celia Imrie) - the new 'HR' woman - to motivate them. 'Scandal' sees the factory visited by a television crew making a docu-soap. In 'Royals', the canteen goes into overdrive when it is announced that HRH Prince James is to pay them a visit. In 'Moods', tensions run high in the canteen and Stan (Duncan Preston) seeks solace by locking himself in the loo. 'Party' sees Bren (Victoria Wood) dolling herself up for the Japanese-themed Christmas party, but will tonight be her night? In 'Night Shift', the staff walk out in protest at the methods employed by Tony's (Andrew Dunn) stand-in canteen supervisor, Nicola Bodeux (Sue Wallace). In 'Catering', Bren has her work cut out when a team of decorators, who are supposed to be painting the canteen over the weekend, arrive early. In 'Trouble', Jean (Anne Reid) is struggling to cope with the fact that her husband has run off with a younger woman. 'Holidays' sees Bren looking forward to going to Marbella with Tony. In 'Fog', Bren has a bad day, not helped by a visiting blood donor unit, a prisoner on the run - and a compromising photo taken by Tony on holiday. 'Gamble' finds the dinner ladies looking forward to Christmas - but Bren's festive plans are unambitious to say the least. In 'Christmas', Bren and Tony are having problems, and Bren considers handing in her notice at work. 'Minnellium' sees Philippa getting herself into a tizzy over the factory's New Year celebrations. In 'Christine', a new employee comes to replace Anita, but her chronic flatulence causes more than a few problems in her new workplace. 'Gravy' sees Petula (Julie Walters) delivering some shocking news. Finally, in 'Toast', Bren's success on 'Totally Trivial' has healed the rift between her and Tony. But the canteen's future could be in jeopardy...
When a popular soap maker dies in the middle of her own launch party, the girls must find out who did it. The answer seems simple. In the victim's hand was a napkin with a handwritten note: The Butler did it. They have their killer. There's just one problem; there are four butlers, each one claiming that he's innocent. Did one of them do it? Or, is there more to this case? 1. Language: English. Narrator: Olivia Searfoss. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/045857/bk_acx0_045857_sample.mp3. Peter Mandelson is one of the most influential politicians of modern times. The Third Man is his story – of a life played out in the backroom and then on the frontline of the Labour Party during its unprecedented three terms in government. Much of the book is devoted to the defining political relationships of Peter Mandelson’s life – with Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. Charting what he terms the ‘soap-opera’ years of the Labour government, his book is certain to ruffle many feathers. Forced to resign from the Cabinet twice in three years, Peter Mandelson has cut a divisive figure through British politics, but his time as Secretary of State for Northern Ireland gained him many supporters. He was a highly regarded European Commissioner before being brought back into British politics by Gordon Brown in 2008 to serve as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, and as First Secretary. Containing a mixture of autobiography, personal reflection, and political history, The Third Man draws heavily on detailed diary notes that Peter Mandelson took during the events, discussions, and meetings that shaped the government and the Labour Party over 25 years. He began writing the book while serving as European Commissioner, and has been completing it since leaving office in May. Much has been written about Peter Mandelson as the person at the heart of the New Labour project, but this is the first time we have heard the unvarnished truth from the man himself. The Third Man is set to become the most talked about political memoir of the year. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Peter Mandelson.
